The future of Argentine soccer star Lionel Messi is unclear. FCB (Football Club Barcelona) is
making changes on the club’s roster after the humiliating loss of 8-2 against FC Bayern Munich
on the quarter finals of the Champions League last Friday.
The club will be making changes in the next days. They will choose a new coach and probably
next year they will select a new president. There is still one question in the air, Will they be able
to keep Lionel Messi? The Barcelona “star” has contract with the club until 2021 but he has not
been covering his dissatisfaction with the club.
Lionel Messi has been more direct in reference to the team’s problems and indicating the poor
decisions the club directors have made. Even though, he has not made it clear about his leaving,
his recent actions have raised doubts about his future.
The Spanish media has reported that the negotiations to extend Messi’s contract beyond next
June 2021 have been on hold since the problems at the club escalated. Brazilian outlet, Esporte
Interativo, said Messi wants to leave the club now instead of waiting until next year.

Besides, many people think that the humiliation against Bayern may have been the breaking out
for the Argentine star. Lionel Messi looked tired and seemed like he had given up at the halftime,
when images showed him sitting at one edge of the bench looking down and biting his nails
while waiting to go back to the field.
In conclusion, Messi has been uncommonly quiet since the loss in Lisbon and has not made
public statements.
