On July 31, 1965, Harry Potter's Author, J.K. Rowling was born. Harry Potter is one of the most read books ever, but it's author got a lot of backlash for controversial stance on the transgender community. Rowling also posted a tweet that said "TERF wars". TERF stands for trans-exclusionary radical feminist. (nbcnews.com)

Rowling was called transphobic because of her support for Maya Forstater, a tax specialist who was fired for posting transphobic tweets. According to Rowling, she knew what would happen after expressing her support for Forstater.

Rowling stated that she was concerned for all the young people that were transitioning. She blames social media for the rise and wondered if she would have transitioned if she was born 30 years later. She also stated that her history of domestic abuse and sexual assault made her worry. She says that transgender women can enter changing rooms but so can any man.

Many don't believe her defense due to the fact that she has other trans-exclusionary tweets. For example, a headline said "people who menstruate" and she tweeted on how those people were women. The headline wanted to include transgender men, nonbinary, and gender-nonconforming people.

In the end, it is up to interpretation of every individual if Rowling is transphobic or not, or if she is truly concerned over women's safety.
