The six-year term of Mexico's former President, Enrique Peña Nieto was full of scandals from his ex-wife Angelica Rivera.

Angélica Rivera Hurtado was born on August 2, 1969 in Mexico City. She is a Mexican singer, model, and a soap opera actress. She was Mexico's first lady from 2012-2018.

Early life:

Angélica's acting career began at age 17, when she won The Face of the Herald contest. She had the opportunity to play a small part in the soap opera Dulce Desafío in 1989. Rivera started to become popular on television by all the roles she played. Time passed, her acting career became successful and in 2007 she had the lead role in the famous soap opera Destilando Amor in the character of Gaviota (Seagull) she is currently referred by that name in the media.

First Lady of Mexico:

Mrs. Rivera married Enrique Peña Nieto in 2010. She abandoned her acting career to support Peña Nieto in his presidential campaign.

Not everything was a bed of roses for Rivera, in November 2014 a Mexican media released an article stating that her $7 million house in a prominent colony in Mexico was registered under the name of a company that received government contracts. This scandal made the Mexican people mad and Angélica released a video in which she explained her income and said that she was selling the house and that the property was not under her name.

Rivera was not forgiven for this scandal by the Mexican people.

Angelica divorced Peña Nieto in 2019.

In the past few days, another scandal in regards to Mrs. Rivera has been revealed by different media in Mexico and the United States that Angélica Rivera signed a contract of about 84 million pesos, that’s about ($15 million dollars a year) to play the role of the first lady and not including all the luxuries she and her family enjoyed during Peña Nieto's presidency.

In conclusion, Rivera was one of the most controversial first ladies in Mexican history and will never be forgotten.
