The Golden Age of Mexican Cinema, gave fame to many talented actors. One famous “star” of those times is Pedro Infante.
Pedro Infante Cruz was born on November 18, 1917 in the city of Mazatlán, Sinaloa, Mexico. He was raised in a nearby city, Guamuchil.
Pedro, was the fourth child out of fifteen, but only nine of them survived. Also, his dad Delfino, played the double bass in a band, was a music teacher, and played a lot of instruments in many orchestras across Sinaloa.
The Infante’s didn’t have that much money and Pedro started working at a very young age to take money home and he only completed school all the way to fourth grade because in the place where he lived it was the only thing kids could aspire to do.
Pedro started to show his passion for music at a very young age and with his dad’s support he learned to play the guitar.
To make the long story short, he was 18 years old when he met Maria Luisa, a woman ten years older than him. It is said, that she became sort of a “manager” for him because she convinced Pedro to move to Mexico City in search of better opportunities. They got married in 1939, and a year later they adopted Pedro’s niece Dora Luisa.
Pedro’s career became successful in Mexico City. He filmed approximately 60 movies between 1939 and 1957 which made him one of the “biggest stars” of the Golden Age of Mexican Cinema.
There’s about 344 songs that he recorded which made him popular in Mexico and Latin America.
In addition, he was an aviation fan and he sum up about 2,989 hours of flight as a pilot. He had two plane crashes which left him a scar on the chin and and a platinum plate in part of the cranium.
On April 15, 1957 about 7:30 a.m. he left Mérida, Yucatán in a hurry because he had to be in Mexico at as soon as possible. He piloted the plane, but sadly he had another crash in which he couldn’t survive.
Pedro, was only thirty-nine years old, but the legacy he left continues to grow throughout the years. He is very much loved by people of all ages in Mexico and Spanish speaking countries. May he rest in peace.
