Mexico City: A Destination Everyone Should Experience

Mexico has many beautiful places to visit and all of those who go get delighted about everything

they see from people to food. One of the most significant places to go on vacation is Mexico

City. This is the country’s capital and it’s one of the most populous city in North America. Also,

Mexico City is one of the prominent cultural and financial centers in the world.


Moreover, Mexico City was the capital of the Aztec Empire. During the colonial era, Mexico

City became the capital of New Spain. At that time, the viceroy of Mexico lived in the viceregal

palace on the main square, known as El Zócalo. An interesting detail about Mexico City is that

its rebuild was accomplished by the hard work of the indigenous labor in the surrounding areas.


Mexico City is divided into 16 boroughs which are broken down into neighborhoods and there

are about 1700 of them. Mexico City has a lot touristic places and a lot of time is needed to go to

tour around these.


Touristic places in Mexico City:


Centro Histórico (Historic Center): Is focused around the Zócalo or Plaza de la Constitución

and it extends in all directions for a number of blocks. There are many historical colonial

landmarks around there and one can be that be found there is the famous Aztec Templo Mayor.

Chapultepec-Lomas: Chapultepec is one of the biggest urban parks in the world. The name in

Nahuatl, means grasshopper hill. This park holds a main zoo, a castle (now a museum), lakes,

amusement park and a lot of museums. Lomas de Chapultepec is the wealthiest district in the

city near Chapultepec and is filled with mansions.


Coyoacán: It is a colonial town swallowed by the urban sprawl. This is center for counter-

culture, arts, students and intellectuals. Many good museums can also be found here.


Xochimilco: It is known as the Mexican Venice due to the extended series of Aztec irrigation

canals all that remains of the ancient Xochimilco lake. Xochimilco has kept its ancient traditions

though it has urbanize due to its proximity to Mexico City.


La Villa de Guadalupe: It is located in the borough of Gustavo A. Madero in the northern prt of

the city. This is the home to the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe, perhaps it is the holiest

Catholic site in the Americas. The Basilica is visited by pilgrims from around the world every

day.


These were some of the touristic places in Mexico City, but this doesn’t end here. Another

attraction in Mexico City is the delicious food.


Food in Mexico City:


There is a variety of food in Mexico City and some it is inevitable not to try them. In Mexico

City there are a lot food stalls on the streets with affordable prices. Some of these foods will be

mentioned below:


Tacos al Pastor: Mexico City is known for this seasoned, spit-roasted pork that was brought to

the country by the Lebanese immigrants and now it is served into the wee hours across the city.

Chefs masterfully shave meat and pineapple into the tiny corn tortillas and then add onions,

cilantro, and salsas.


Barbacoa: This is usually made of lamb and it’s wrapped in agave leaves, placed over wood and

slow-roasted in underground pits. When the product is finished is served with corn tortillas,

onions, cilantro, lime and salsa.


Esquites: The kernels are removed and either boiled or roasted with epazote and then served

with the choice of salt, mayonnaise, lime, chile powder or con todo (the works).


To end, planning a vacation to Mexico City would be a great idea because there will be

guaranteed fun. Mexico City an unforgettable place.
